HII-MIS is currently seeking aEngineering Technician 1to work out of theirVirginia Beachoffice.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • Install, modify, test, repair, overhaul, and remove electronic and electrical equipment on US Navy ships and shore site facilities. Be able to understand written and verbal instruction, specifications, drawings, and plans. Assemble / disassemble and install electrical/fiber cables and grounding straps. Conduct electrical tests to determine proper functioning of shipboard units. Troubleshoot and repair electrical components onboard US Navy ships. Design, prepare and modify engineering drawings.

  • Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders, standing for extended periods, and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time professional experience working as an Engineering Technician in providing technical support related to the design, development, production, or testing of shipboard systems. This must include two years of full-time hands-on experience in installation, troubleshooting, repairing, and / or testing of any one major shipboard system / equipment. The requirement for full time experience precludes concurrent experience on more than one system / equipment unless they are all equivalent in complexity and maintenance philosophy.

  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy surface ship combat systems and embedded training systems such as AN/USQ-T46 (V) BFTT System, AN/USQ-T48 (V) Trainer, AN/USQ-T47 BFTT Electronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT), Simulator/Stimulator Systems (TSSS), Damage Control Training Management System (DCTMS), Navigation Seamanship and Ship handling Trainer (NSST) on various classes of ships.

  • HS diploma plus 3 years relevant (DoD/USN) experience.

  • Travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred –

  • Formal electronic training from a technical school or Navy “C” School.

  • Connector certified and fiber optic certified (preferred) in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items 009-73 and 009-123, respectively.

  • Proficiency in use of test equipment.

  • Experience conducting J-standard soldering, heliax cable termination, copper pin connectorization for cannon plugs, DB connectors, coaxial and triaxial cables, fiber optics, ST and multi-pin connectors and Category 5 and 6 Ethernet termination and associated testing.

  • Multiple tours on naval ships highly preferred.


  • All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.

  • The selected applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • U.S. citizen with current DoD Secret Clearance is required.
