HII-MIS is currently seeking a Sr. Computer Engineer to work at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Information Directorate in Rome, NY.
The role will be to define and conduct pathfinder projects to establish and prototype a technology and capabilities roadmap for the for the Air Force Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) initiative. The SCARS initiative, managed by the Air Force Simulator Program Office (AFLCMC/WNS) is meant to apply current and emerging cloud processing technologies to simulation devices to enhance capabilities, improve life cycle support, and improve the cybersecurity posture of the Air Force training enterprise.
Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):
Identification of, assessment of, and recommendations on new technology opportunities and pathfinder projects that address SCARS and simulator stakeholder needs including studies on the use of hypervisors for cloud-based simulation services; and data flow consolidations regarding centralized storage and provision of visual and sensor simulation data files used to represent terrain, features, and imagery.
Identification and analysis of critical components which are eligible for technology flattening in support of standardized virtualization efforts.
Develop tracking tools and reports on SCARS related studies from numerous sources and analyze those studies to recommend a delineated critical path for SCARS implementation across the simulator community.
Efforts will include decomposition and design of simulation components from two (2) dissimilar simulation systems for implementation in a cloud environment provided by AFRL.
Establish a reference architecture for further expansion of the pathfinder project into other simulations.
Provide all Team Lead activities including interfacing with the customer(s), project planning, allocating tasks to team personnel, and coordinating activities within the development environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 8 years of relevant work experience. Advanced degree desirable.
Significant background in real-time simulation, operating systems, hypervisors, containers, cloud computing technologies, software development. Experience/knowledge of at least one cloud services provider. Exposure to cybersecurity measures and risk mitigations.
Experience with Agile software development methodologies and tools including DevOps.
Writing and speaking skills; ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications, and articulate ideas clearly and concisely.
Outstanding organizational, planning, and prioritization skills along with an ability to adapt to evolving concepts.
Experience working with, managing, and mentoring a technical team from entry level to senior developers.
Ability to travel.
- AFRL experience desirable.
