Camber currently has an immediate need for a Navy Operations Planner USW Training Systems SME - Surface. Ideal candidates include Sonar Technicians (STG) with at least 2-4 years of experience.

Job Title: Navy Fleet Synthetic Training (FST) Operations Planner - Surface USW Training Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Description: Seeking a highly motivated individual to function as part of a technical team in the planning, coordination, and execution of Fleet Synthetic Training events supporting US Navy Fleet training program. Must be a proven self-starter with an ability to interact effectively with senior military, government, industry, and allied/coalition partners.


  • Assist with designing and executing Unit, Warfare, Group and Numbered Fleet Commander distributed training scenarios.

  • Work with simulation databases (BFTT TCW SAST contact FILL lists) for entity mapping of naval, air and subsurface platforms, including detailing platform acoustic signatures, threat signatures, and other associated acoustic data.

  • Work with various government and contractor software engineers to design, develop, test, and deploy new ASW/USW training systems.

  • Develop post-event after action reports and assist with incorporating lessons learned in overall exercise planning process.

  • Attend planning conferences and lead working groups, as required.

  • Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Provide distance technical and training support to Tactical Training Group Pacific during the design and execution of multi-unit, multi-FCA distributed training events.

  • Provide tactically-relevant shipboard mentoring to Sonar/Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Combat Information Center (CIC) Watch teams. Debrief Sonar Watch Supervisor, Lead STG and ASWE.

Education: Work experience (2-4 years plus) in ASW SQQ-89 technical operations and/or modeling and simulation based US Navy training system design and/or use, may be substituted for the undergraduate degree.


  • 2-4 years experience in US Navy operations including supervisor-level Sonar Technician Surface (STG) experience required.

  • Qualified as SQQ-89 Sensor Operator and On-Board Trainer(OBT)/Trainer Control Workstation (TCW) Surface ASW Synthetic Trainer Operator at a minimum. Navy NEC STG-0522 or 0524 desirable. BFTT experience, desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) required. Expert working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is highly desirable.


  • Qualified as a Combat Systems Training Team (CSTT) member and Sonar Supervisor.

  • Knowledge of US Navy Surface ship combat systems and embedded training systems required, such as BFTT, ACTS, SQQ-89 OBT/TCW SAST, BEWT and SLQ-32.

Travel: Periodic independent CONUS and OCONUS travel required. Must have the ability to physically access a variety of work sites, including naval vessels under various stages of maintenance, requiring the use of stairs or inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping and standing.
